China Reaffirms Strong Support for Pakistan’s Security and Stability
KARACHI: In the midst of rising global instability, China has once again pledged its unwavering support for Pakistan’s sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity.
The assurance was made during Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi’s official visit to Pakistan, where he held meetings with President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir, and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar.
Strengthening Military and Strategic Cooperation
According to a statement released by China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Wang Yi commended Pakistan’s armed forces, calling them the “cornerstone of national stability” and a firm guarantor of the China-Pakistan friendship.
He emphasized the importance of upgrading the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) to Version 2.0, highlighting its role in fostering deeper strategic trust and economic development.
Addressing Global Challenges Together
Wang Yi noted that the world is undergoing rapid and unprecedented changes, with instability on the rise. In this context, he stressed that a strong China-Pakistan relationship is vital for promoting regional peace and long-term stability.
“China firmly supports Pakistan in its fight against terrorism and remains committed to helping create a safe environment for Pakistan’s national growth and bilateral cooperation,” the Chinese foreign minister said during his meeting with PM Shehbaz Sharif.
Continued Diplomatic Priority for Pakistan
Reiterating Beijing’s long-standing position, Wang Yi stated that Pakistan remains a top priority in China’s neighborhood diplomacy. He assured that China would keep supporting Islamabad in safeguarding its sovereignty and national interests, while also encouraging Pakistan to take on a larger role in international affairs.
Commitment to Security of Chinese Citizens
Both the prime minister and the army chief reassured Beijing of Pakistan’s determination to provide full security for Chinese citizens, projects, and institutions operating in the country. They also expressed appreciation for China’s consistent economic and social support over the years.
General Asim Munir emphasized the military’s commitment to enhancing counterterrorism and security cooperation with Beijing, promising continued efforts to ensure the safety of Chinese personnel and investments.
The Road Ahead for CPEC
Earlier this week, a spokesperson for the Chinese foreign ministry reaffirmed that China and Pakistan would jointly push forward the second phase of CPEC, describing their relationship as an “all-weather strategic partnership” that remains unshakable and enduring.
