COAS Asim Munir reaffirms army’s backing for Balochistan’s development during Turbat visit
TURBAT / August 23, 2025 — Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Asim Munir visited Turbat on Saturday where he reiterated the military’s full commitment to supporting projects aimed at improving the socio-economic conditions of Balochistan, according to Radio Pakistan.
During his visit, the army chief met Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti and senior officials of the Turbat civil administration. He underlined the importance of close cooperation between civilian authorities and the military to address the province’s challenges, particularly in the underdeveloped southern districts.
Field Marshal Munir stressed that the people of Balochistan deserve peace, prosperity, and sustainable growth, assuring that the army would continue to “stand shoulder to shoulder” with them in this journey. He highlighted the need for good governance, inclusive development, and investment in infrastructure to bring lasting progress to the region.
The army chief also received a detailed briefing on the province’s security situation, including counterterrorism operations against what the military terms “Fitna al Hindustan” — a reference to India’s alleged involvement in destabilising activities. He was also updated on ongoing development projects designed to uplift communities in southern Balochistan.
Addressing troops stationed in the region, COAS Munir praised their morale, operational readiness, and dedication to safeguarding national security under difficult conditions.
Earlier this year, while speaking at the Pakistan Minerals Investment Forum, the army chief had emphasised the growing link between economic and national security. He assured both local and foreign investors that the military would provide a secure environment to protect their interests, especially in resource-rich Balochistan.
The provincial government has also earmarked Rs249.5 billion for development under its 2025-26 Annual Development Plan (ADP), with several projects planned under public-private partnership models. In July, the Balochistan cabinet approved additional security measures, new welfare schemes, and subsidies for farmers as part of efforts to stabilise and uplift the province.
