Initial Autopsy Confirms Journalist Khawar Hussain’s Death as Suicide
Police gather forensic evidence, CCTV footage as investigation continues
HYDERABAD: The preliminary post-mortem report into the death of journalist Khawar Hussain has confirmed that he died by suicide, according to findings shared on Sunday.
Hussain, a young reporter working for a private news channel, was discovered dead in his vehicle on Saturday night along Hyderabad Road in Sanghar, SSP Sanghar Abid Baloch told the media.
According to doctors involved in the examination, the bullet wound to his head came from his licensed pistol, and current evidence strongly points to suicide. Police teams have seized fingerprints, CCTV recordings, and other materials for detailed forensic analysis.
Investigation and forensic review
Video surveillance shows Hussain entering and exiting a local restaurant twice before returning to his car, where he remained parked for nearly two hours. Investigators have retrieved one of his two mobile phones; the second phone is still unaccounted for. Authorities are working to determine whether it was misplaced or left behind, and the recovered handset has been sent for digital forensics.
Police officials say the case is being handled with meticulous attention to detail to reconstruct the exact chain of events leading up to Hussain’s death.
Reaction from Sindh authorities
The late journalist had spent almost a decade reporting from Karachi, working with several prominent media outlets during his career.
The tragic news prompted Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah to seek a full report from provincial police at the earliest. Shah directed Inspector General Ghulam Nabi Memon to assign top investigators and ensure a transparent inquiry. He also offered condolences to Hussain’s family and instructed local officials to provide all necessary assistance.
Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori also expressed sorrow over the loss and called for a thorough investigation to clarify any doubts surrounding the incident.
